Beyond ABI - Code of Conduct
The success of Beyond ABI and its members is in part dependent on the behaviour and commitment of its members and supporters.
Beyond ABI values the contributions and well-being of all its members. Beyond ABI is committed to providing a safe, supportive, respectful and welcoming environment for all its members and supporters.
Peer support is founded on the principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual understanding. Everyone’s experiences are equally important in giving and receiving support. Members should always remember that while their own experiences may be valuable for other people, they should not push any particular approaches to other members (other than suggesting contact with appropriately trained therapists that might be useful).
This Code of Conduct serves as a guide to the behaviour we uphold and expect of our members. We appreciate your commitment to upholding these principles and fostering a positive community.
1. Be Inclusive and Respectful:
• Treat all members with kindness, respect, and empathy, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, nationality, or any other characteristic. This applies in all settings, including online forums or other communication.
2. Maintain a Safe Environment:
• Refrain from engaging in or promoting bullying, any form of harassment, discrimination, or offensive behavior, in physical meetings or online.
3. Respect Privacy:
• Respect the privacy and personal boundaries of fellow members & do not share personal information about others without their consent.
4. Collaborate and Communicate Effectively:
• Foster a spirit of collaboration and cooperation within the community.
• Engage in constructive and respectful communication, both online and offline.
• As part of being respectful to others, don’t use meetings or online forums for disrespectful messages, to impose personal views on others or to discuss matters that may offend, distress or have a negative impact on recovery from brain injury. Try to keep online forums focused on the issues important to Beyond ABI.
5. Report Violations:
• If you see or hear anything that violates this Code of Conduct, notify Beyond ABI, either through a committee member or the activity co-ordinator, as you see fit.
6. Consequences for Violations:
• Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent expulsion from Beyond ABI, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation. Decisions regarding consequences will be made by Beyond ABI leaders and committee in line with the rules of association.
I have read the Beyond ABI Code of Conduct and by submitting this online submission, I agree with the following statements:
